This is standard practice in all Pennsylvania jurisdictions. With respect to police presence on campus, police arrive any time an ambulance is called. Our working relationship with these departments (as well as Pennsylvania state and federal agencies) helps ensure a safe campus community in myriad ways. The police departments of Haverford and Lower Merion Townships have legal jurisdiction over their respective portions of campus (the campus spans both townships) and therefore carry a legal authority and responsibility to provide for public safety within Haverford College. Haverford Campus Safety staff are not sworn police officers, do not have any police powers or authority, and are therefore not empowered to make arrests or to carry firearms.
